CVS Semi-Annual Beauty Sale Haul

Hey everyone! How I've missed writing on my blog this week. I've been busy all week and finally have some free time to catch up with you! I have been meaning to put this haul up for a while. It's full of amazing products and I hope you enjoy.

I get asked by a lot of people (just getting into make-up or don't have a lot of money to spend on higher priced items) what kind of drug store items they can buy so this is for everyone! I love drugstore products because they are inexpensive and good for people who like to experiment!

CVS does this sale twice a year and I just found out about it this year! This sale happens when the new collection of beauty products from different brands are about to come out.  It includes makeup, hair products, tools and even some nail polishes. From what I know it happens in January and June. They place all of the "out of season" products on sale for 50% or 75% off!!!! I went to two different CVS stores in my town to see what they had to offer. An hour and $150 later, I was happy as a clam with all of my new stuff! I do plan on doing specific reviews of products as I try them. I hope ya'll enjoy!

WINNER--Giveaway: Celebrating a week of blogging!

Seeing that I only had one person enter the giveaway, I am happy to announce that my dear friend Rondrea Mathis won !!!!!! Let's give it up for Rondrea! Her responses were as follows:

To me, beauty is the ability to shine God's light through my external and internal being. It means being a reflection of the "Son" and the sun.

From this blog, I would like to learn how to apply makeup more professionally and how to effectively manage my natural hair.

You see how she added God into her response...she's so blessed. Who can say no to Him!
Rondrea is now the proud owner of:

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (Soft Black)
1 Rimmel London Lipstick (Pink Champagne)

Nail Polish of the Week: You Don't Know Jaques

OPI in You Don't Know Jaques

I decided to take to red polish off and do something a little more neutral. This polish has been featured in a couple of magazines and is a very popular fall color. I normally wouldn't like such a neutral color but a dear friend of mine (Anamarie) tells me that I need to step up my nail polish game. I usually like bright neon colors...lol. Seeing that I work a job that I want to keep, I need to have "appropriate" colors. The color is growing on me. It kind of reminds me of wet cement...lol. I love the name so maybe I'll keep it around. Plus it was $8!!!

Product Review: EOS Lip Balm

So I wanted to do a quick product review on The Evolution of Smooth Lip Balm. I went to Ulta this weekend and got three different flavors, Honeysuckle Honeydew, Summer Fruit and Lemon Drop. These lip balms are really great. They are 100% natural and 95% organic. I don't really care about them being all natural but I guess it's an added bonus.
I think they are really cute and go on very smooth. They are a good lip balm for moisture. Not sticky or overpowering. They smell nice and have a subtle sweetness to them. I like to keep one by the bed and one in my purse for those dry lip moments.

Me and my friends each got our new lip balm!

Here is a link to where you can purchase them. They are also available at Ulta:

October 2010-11 Hair Diet

So I decided to go on a hair diet in October. I am really interested in having long and healthy hair. My goal is to have curls that fall past my shoulders. I want my hair to hit my bra strap by October 2011. I am looking to retain length, increase moisture and strength, and reduce the amount of heat and friction that I use on my hair. I am hoping that I can go a year doing all of the aforementioned.

Retain length: sealing my ends and being careful to not have my ends rub against my clothes or on my pillows. I sleep with a silk bonnet. I also am sure to get my ends trimmed regularly. Don't be scared to trim that old hair! You need room for the healthy hair to show through.

Increase moisture: This includes water. Water is very moisturizing for hair. Ever since I can remember, I was always told not to wet my hair in order to preserve a style. That all went down the drain when I went natural. I usually wet my hair everyday! Water is a great way to rehydrate your hair and to wake up your curls. If I don't want to wet my hair in the shower, I definitely use a spray bottle with just plain water. I have tried different concoctions like water and conditioner but I like how accessible regular water is. You have to remember to use a product to retain the moisture once the water on you hair has dried.  I am currently using a hair moisturizer and an argon oil to seal and moisturize my hair. I also find that after I wash my hair, I will let it air dry or use paper towels to remove the excess water. I don't like to use towels because they make my hair frizzy.

Reducing heat and friction:  I am vowing to not use direct heat...omg...I don't use it a lot but I do straighten my hair maybe once every two months. I will only use indirect heat like a hood dryer. Even that won't be very often. I am in the process of wearing protective styles including two strand twists, braids and roller sets. I am having to find creative ways to style my twists. I have really soft hair and my twists like to unravel after a couple of days. I've realized that bobby pins are my best friend! You also have to remember to be careful when detangling your hair. I ONLY detangle my hair when it is saturated with water and conditioner. I have found that having some type of lubrication prevents you from loosing a lot of hair. I also use a wide tooth comb or my new favorite a denman brush. I have always been tender headed and don't see the point in detangling my hair more than once or twice every two weeks. I just don't have time. Plus my curls always look better when I don't rake through them. I detangle in the shower and let them air dry.

Here is an example of how I had my hair for the weekend. I just twisted it in the car on the way to Atlanta. Nothing serious. I have hand made parts and different sized twists. Lol. I used a moisturizer,  an alcohol free gel and my argon oil.  It took me about two hours because my hair was a tangled mess!

One of my favorite bloggers, Nikole from Moptop Maven has the best regime and explanation of a hair challenge that I've seen. Check it out!

As with any and all diets, I know that I will have my ups and downs. I hope to stay focused and have great results! I'll be sure to post pictures on my progress!

Blue and Purple Club Look

I  wanted to share a quick look I did last night with my beautiful line sister Ashley. She allowed me to be a little adventurous and try something she normally doesn't wear. Hope ya'll like it!

First, I took the Elf Eyelid Primer and dabbed it on both eyelids. This helps to keep the eyeshadow on all night and keeps it from creasing. I have been experimenting with eyeshadow primers especially when I go to the club. I want my makeup to stay on all night and having a primer really helps. I placed my MAC Paintpot in Groundworks over the primer and smoothed it on quickly with my finger.

I then used the blue-purple shadow with a crease brush and placed it on her lash line. I took the black shadow and blended the blue into the black. I took the most vibrant purple in the palette and blended it into the crease. I finished with the copper colored shadow as a highlight.

I used Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara on her long lashes. She has amazing lashes so I really wanted them to stand out. I've been loving the Revlon Brow Fantasy. I used it to fill in her brows and ensure that the hairs stay down.

Items used:
88 Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Palette
Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara
MAC Optimistic Orange Cream Blush
Elf Eyeshadow Primer
MAC Paintpot in Groundworks
Revlon Brow Fantasy
