As I'm sure all of you know, I am trying to grow my hair. I have recently decided to take more time out to condition my hair. I found a youtube video talking about the "perm application" method of applying conditioner. I thought it was pretty interesting and most importantly, it made sense. I decided I'd try it an see how it went.
I parted my hair in four sections and started in the back. I find that my hair is manipulated less in the back which makes it a little more coarse and tangled. I find that when I do my hair, starting in the back is best. It is usually harder to manage so by the time I get to the front I am almost done!
I applied the conditioner as if it were a relaxer. I finger parted sections about half an inch thick and applied the conditioner from root to tip.
During the application process, I was able to remove shed hairs and tangles. It took a while but it was honestly kind of therapeutic. There really is something calming about spending so much intimate time with each strand of hair. Weird I know...
I got this conditioning cap from Sally's. It claims to help keep your body heat in the cap and allows conditioner to penetrate your hair. I kind of like it because it makes me look like a sweet potato. LOL.
I wrap my hair in my towel and let it condition for at least an hour. I usually put on a mask or do my nails while I let the conditioner penetrate my hair.
This is the conditioner I used this time. I add coconut oil and aloe vera gel to it. It makes the conditioner last longer and adds lots of extra moisture.
Overall I found the entire process more therapeutic than anything. Yes my hair was very soft and manageable but I enjoyed the me time most.
How do you condition your hair? Do you make you time? Take a day out of your week to simply beautify. It's great!
